Therapy offers people support when they are having difficult times. Deciding to get help for yourself is really hard; when therapy is someone else’s idea – often the case for children and teens – accepting help in therapy can seem even harder. Therapy is a way for professionally trained people to help you find ways to handle problems, develop skills, deal with stress, and make changes. Therapy often involves a lot of talking and listening; with children and teens, we work to incorporate their interests and activities, often involving games, sports, technology, music, and art.
Our staff are trained in providing evidence-based therapy and using research to understand what works for your child’s problems. Examples of common therapies include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Family Systems Therapy, and Interpersonal Therapy. Very young children often cannot express themselves well with words, so we utilize Play Therapy to meet your child’s developmental needs.
