Resiliency Clubhouse for Youth Grand Opening
Advantage Behavioral Health Systems, an Athens-based community behavioral health provider, officially announces its grand opening ceremony for Remix, a resiliency support clubhouse, on Thursday, May 18 at 4:30 p.m. Last fall, the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) awarded a grant to Advantage Behavioral Health Systems to fund the youth clubhouse that has been named “Remix”.
“Remix” provides peer support, family engagement and social activities for children and families who are coping with isolation, stigma and other challenges of mental health disorders. Located on Mill Center Boulevard in Athens, the facility has been renovated over the last few months to accommodate activities and to create a specialized music studio, funded by Emmanuel Episcopal Church. Local artist Broderick Flanigan and local designer Cal Clements have been instrumental in design aspects at the club house, and they both will lead camps and educational groups in the coming months.
Program Manager for Remix, Tochuku L. Ikedionwu, stated, “This clubhouse is an amazing community resource. It provides a unique and healthy environment to assist youth with everything from homework, to finding a job, to improving family engagement, as well as offering social and educational activities.”
Youth membership to “Remix” is gained through referrals from school teachers, counselors and therapists. Go to https://www.advantagebhs.org/remix.cms for more information, or contact Tochuku L. Ikedionwu at (706) 338-5530.
